A glorious sunset walk up St Giles’ Hill in Winchester
On a sunny evening, I love to take a particular walk with my other half. The route we take is officially known as Winchester’s Sunset Walk, which takes in the viewpoint atop St. Giles Hill.
Set off down the high street, stopping off at the Guildhall if you need guidance and details of all of the ancient landmarks along the way.
Soon you’ll find yourself tackling the hill and its 149 steps (we counted them), after which you’ll want to stop a good while to take in the magnificent view over the city. We like to take some drinks, throw down a blanket and watch the sunset, then amble back down the hill and into Winchester’s best “back-street boozer” – the fabulous Black Boy – which always helps the day stretch out that little bit longer.
